The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged the Sokoto State Government to involve traditional rulers in implementing the N70,000 minimum wage.
The call was made on Sunday during a Town Hall meeting organised by the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning ahead of the submission of the state’s 2026 budget proposal. The Sultan was represented at the event by the District Head of Wurno, Alhaji Kabiru Cigari-Alhassan.
The meeting also heard contributions from representatives of persons with disabilities, women’s groups, and civil society organisations, who raised concerns on issues such as water supply, school furniture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, said the forum was designed to broaden consultations on the proposed 2026 budget.
Governor Ahmad Aliyu assured participants that budget allocations would continue to support projects in religious institutions, education, water, and healthcare, adding that ongoing efforts are being made to improve electricity supply, school facilities, and child welfare programmes.
