The Joint Security Watch Kwara South has strongly condemned the abduction of a traditional ruler and two others in Ifelodun Local Government Area, describing it as a worrying escalation of insecurity in the Kwara South axis.
The group’s coordinator, Elder Olaitan Oyin Zubair, said in a statement on Sunday that gunmen stormed the Olayinka community in Agunjin District around 1:00 a.m., abducting the monarch, Alhaji Saliman Aweda, his wife, and another individual.
He said the repeated cases of kidnappings in the area have continued to spread fear among residents, recalling earlier incidents in Idofin Odo Ase where several people were abducted and schools were shut for months due to insecurity.
Zubair stressed that the latest attack was unacceptable, urging security agencies to take urgent and coordinated action to address the worsening situation.
He warned that failure to respond decisively could further deteriorate the fragile security situation in the region, calling for a comprehensive, multi-agency intervention to restore public confidence.
The security advocate also renewed calls on the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade to deploy full-scale military operations in the area, saying such efforts would support ongoing security operations in affected communities.
He praised the efforts of security personnel led by Captain Abiola, particularly operations in Oke-Oyan, Owa-Kajola, Owa-Onire, and surrounding areas, including the rescue of previous victims, but said more still needed to be done.
Zubair urged the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other relevant agencies to prioritise the security of Ifelodun and the wider Kwara South region.
