A quiet community in Okitipupa, Ondo State, has been plunged into mourning after three children were killed in a shocking domestic incident on Tuesday.

The victims, all from the same extended family, were reportedly attacked and killed with a machete inside their home.

Those who died include a female student enrolled in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme, a young boy identified as her cousin, and another boy believed to be the biological son of the suspected attacker.

According to preliminary reports from residents, the suspect—said to be a male relative believed to be mentally unstable allegedly carried out the attack earlier in the day.

“Three children from the family of Baba Agbaye were brutally murdered in a tragic and shocking attack,” a distressed resident said.

“The victims include a female JUPEB student and two young boys.

Among them were Baba Agbaye’s biological daughter, the son of his elder brother’s child, and the biological son of the suspected attacker.”

The resident added that the entire community is in shock.
Sources said the head of the family, Baba Agbaye, along with his wife and their youngest son, had gone to their oil farm earlier on Tuesday.

On their way back, they reportedly met the suspect heading toward the Ayeka area.

“When they encountered him and questioned him, he said he was coming from Baba Agbaye’s house,” a resident explained.

“They had no idea he had already committed the horrific act.”
The victims’ bodies have been taken to the State Specialist Hospital, while authorities are expected to launch a full investigation into the incident.

Residents described the incident as a devastating loss, not only for the family but for the entire community.

“This tragedy has left everyone in shock and deep mourning,” the resident said. “May the souls of the departed rest in peace.”
