The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) has urged President Bola Tinubu to set a strict one-year timeline for all service chiefs to work alongside the group in tackling insecurity across Nigeria.

Kailani Muhammad, National Chairman of the CJTF, made the call in Abuja over the weekend after receiving his certificate of partnership as Chairman of the West African JTF.

The certificate was presented by Charles Omini, Special Envoy and Ambassador to West Africa for the International Human Rights Protection Service/Forum.

Muhammad said the CJTF has intelligence on the hideouts and movements of criminal groups nationwide but lacks advanced tools to act effectively.

“If we are serious, we know their locations even in the states where these attacks occur,” he said.

He stressed that the federal government should equip both security agencies and the CJTF with modern surveillance technologies and set clear performance targets for service chiefs.

“We are calling on Mr President to give all security chiefs a one-year timeline. They should sign an undertaking to work with us to eliminate insecurity within this period. If they fail, they should resign,” Muhammad said.

He also highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence tools, CCTV coverage, and other digital systems, noting that Nigeria’s borders, with around 2,000 unguarded entry points, remain vulnerable.

“CCTV systems like those in Mexico and the US should be installed, especially in areas prone to criminal influx. We have AI now,” he added.

Omini echoed the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies, emphasising that technology-driven approaches are crucial to tackling Nigeria’s evolving security threats.

“I urge security heads at all levels to develop strategic partnerships with relevant agencies and organisations. We live in a global and digital world; advanced technology is key to combating these challenges,” he said.

He also appealed to armed groups to embrace peace and stop violence.

“Those carrying arms and engaging in kidnappings must stop. Enough is enough,” Omini said.
