Speaking on Friday at his country home in Bende, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu told journalists that the allegation was unfounded.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has denied claims that the National Assembly is intentionally delaying amendments to the Electoral Act 2022.

Speaking on Friday at his country home in Bende, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu told journalists that the allegation was unfounded.

The clarification comes after former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, accused the National Assembly of stalling changes to the Electoral Act.

Atiku, in a post on his X account on Thursday, warned that such delays could threaten the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

Responding, Kalu said, “The National Assembly is not delaying amendment of the Electoral Act. It is not true that the Parliament is deliberately delaying them, especially from the House of Representatives.”

He assured Nigerians that the House had already addressed gaps in the law and was now awaiting the Senate’s concurrent legislative action.

Kalu expressed confidence that the Senate would soon conclude its review.
