In a statement issued on Friday, Frank claimed that the foreign medical practitioner was invited on Thursday night to assess El-Rufai’s health while he remains in DSS custody.

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has raised fresh concerns over the detention and health condition of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alleging that the Department of State Services (DSS) brought in a Russian doctor to examine him without the consent of his family.

In a statement issued on Friday, Frank claimed that the foreign medical practitioner was invited on Thursday night to assess El-Rufai’s health while he remains in DSS custody.

He further alleged that although El-Rufai initially resisted the examination, he was eventually compelled to undergo it.

Frank questioned the motive behind the development, describing the timing and circumstances as suspicious.

“A DSS official reached out to me to reliably confirm that a Russian doctor visited Mallam Nasir El-Rufai at about 9:45 p.m. under the claim that he was ill and required medical attention,” he said.

“Although Mallam El-Rufai allegedly refused initially, he was reportedly compelled to undergo medical examination.”

He added, “If Mallam El-Rufai is truly ill, why bring in a foreign doctor at that time of the night?”

Frank also expressed concern over El-Rufai’s safety in detention, urging northern elders, youths, civil society groups, and religious leaders not to remain silent on the matter.

“I pray that northern elders and youths will not sit back and watch anything untoward happen to Mallam El-Rufai,” he said.

He called on the Nigerian Bar Association, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and the international community to intervene and demand El-Rufai’s release to enable him prepare for his defence.

Recall that El-Rufai was granted N100 million bail by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Abuja, over alleged national security-related charges.

However, he was returned to DSS custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
