The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro, has called on members of the public to see security as a collective responsibility and not the duty of government alone.
Hon. Fagbenro made this known today during “A Day with Hon. Abayomi Fagbenro” held at his residence in Adabeji, South-West Ibadan, where members of his Bibire political group gathered to receive updates on recent political developments and security matters.
Speaking at the gathering, Fagbenro explained the circumstances surrounding his decision to step down from the race for the South-West/North-West Federal House of Representatives seat, stating that he accepted the appointment as Special Adviser on Security to Governor Seyi Makinde in order to contribute more effectively to the peace and safety of Oyo State.
He stressed that security requires the cooperation of all citizens, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
“Security is not for the government alone. It is everybody’s business. If you see something, say something,” he said.
The security adviser also warned against the spread of fake news and misinformation, especially during the current political season, noting that opposition elements may circulate false information to mislead the public and tarnish reputations.
He encouraged residents to verify information before sharing and advised the public to make use of the emergency line, 615, whenever there is useful information for security agencies.
Hon. Fagbenro, a retired United States military officer turned humanitarian, reaffirmed his commitment to giving back to society through community development and public service.
Governor Seyi Makinde recently appointed Abayomi Fagbenro as Special Adviser on Security in Oyo State.
