For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Sunday Igboho remains committed to lawful, community-based security initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Yorubaland

The attention of the office of Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho), has been drawn to recent statements attributed to the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) concerning the proposed Iru Ekun Security Network.
For the avoidance of doubt, Chief Sunday Igboho remains committed to lawful, community-based security initiatives aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Yorubaland.
These efforts are fully in line with the constitutional right of citizens and communities to support security architecture that protects them, and they do not in any way undermine or replace statutory security agencies such as the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and other recognised regional security outfits.
HURIWA’s recent comments suggesting that the Iru Ekun Security Network represents an unlawful or dangerous ethnic militia are misleading and do not reflect the true nature and intention of the initiative.
At no point has the project been positioned as an ethnic militia or a parallel armed structure outside the law.
The Iru Ekun Security Network is strictly a community-driven framework designed to complement existing security efforts within Yorubaland.
It is focused solely on the protection of communities facing rising insecurity and does not operate outside constitutional boundaries.
We also wish to state clearly that the name “Iru Ekun” remains exclusively associated with Chief Sunday Adeyemo and his initiative. Any attempt by unauthorised individuals or groups to appropriate or misuse the name is not recognised and should be disregarded by the public.
While we acknowledge the right of civil society organisations, including HURIWA, to express opinions on national security matters, we strongly urge that public commentary on sensitive security issues be guided by fairness, accuracy, and national unity.
Security remains a collective responsibility, and all stakeholders must avoid statements that may be misinterpreted or capable of creating unnecessary tension.
Selective criticism of security arrangements in one region while overlooking similar structures elsewhere in the country raises legitimate concerns about consistency and objectivity.
Chief Sunday Igboho will continue to engage lawfully and constructively with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, all governors in the South-West, and other relevant authorities in pursuit of peace and security in Yorubaland.
The public is therefore urged to disregard misrepresentations suggesting otherwise and remain focused on collective efforts to strengthen community safety across Nigeria.
