A 27-year-old man, Alagbe Gbemisoye, has been found dead after falling into a deep well in the Ire-Akari, Adeniran area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State, with fire service operatives recovering his body and handing it over to the police.
The victim was pulled out by operatives of the Oyo State Fire Service after residents raised the alarm on Wednesday.
Reports indicate that passersby who noticed the situation quickly alerted the Fire Service, which immediately deployed a rescue team to the location.
The circumstances surrounding how the victim fell into the well were still unknown at press time.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Fire Reforms and Chairman, Fire Services, Moroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident and said his office received a distress call from a concerned resident and one Mr Ajayi Olayemi.
“Fire personnel led by CFM Oladejo were promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a 27-year-old man, identified as Alagbe Gbemisoye, had fallen into a deep well.
“His body was recovered and subsequently handed over to the DPO, Owode Police Station,” Akinwande stated.
He urged the public to prioritise safety in their daily activities and stressed the need for functional fire extinguishers in homes and buildings to reduce fire-related emergencies.
