Eyewitnesses reported that Aisha arrived at the hospital in critical condition, desperately needing a ventilator, but the cashier refused to process the mobile transfer due to the family’s lack of cash.

A pregnant woman, Aisha Najamu, tragically died at Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Hospital in Katsina, Nigeria, after hospital staff allegedly refused to accept a bank transfer for oxygen payment, demanding cash instead.
Eyewitnesses reported that Aisha arrived at the hospital in critical condition, desperately needing a ventilator, but the cashier refused to process the mobile transfer due to the family’s lack of cash.
The hospital management attributed the refusal to the state’s Treasury Single Account policy, which prohibits accepting transfers into personal accounts, and cited a shortage of oxygen and lack of POS machines as contributing factors.
The hospital worker said no to helping a woman, even when a guy tried to step in and offer to pay. He wanted to do a bank transfer to save her life, but the worker said hospital rules wouldn’t let him accept it.
The guy even offered to pay everything and send extra money, and even offered the worker $100, but the worker still said no.
Sources who didn’t want to be named said these kinda things happen a lot in Katsina hospitals, mainly ’cause they’re super short-staffed. One person said like, “Most of the workers are just casuals, and they’re only getting like 10k paid.”
There have been reports of people not getting proper care, slow response times, and hospitals sticking to their rules instead of helping patients, and it’s making people mad about the healthcare system in Katsina.
An investigation has been promised into the incident, which has sparked widespread outrage and concerns about healthcare policies and staff shortages in Katsina’s public hospitals.
