Oba Simeon Ibiyinka Olaonipekun, ruler of Aafin Ile Ire in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, has been freed after being kidnapped by armed bandits last year.

The traditional leader and his son were reportedly abducted on December 32, 2025. His son was released earlier following a N20 million ransom payment.

Oba Olaonipekun was released on Thursday morning after his captors received an additional N12 million.

SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer for Kwara State Command, could not be reached for comment. Sources say the ransom was raised through contributions from the community and private individuals.
