Heavy snow fell on Friday from southern Connecticut through the Hudson Valley and into parts of upstate New York, while most of Long Island received between 2 and 6 inches of snow.
The New York City area recorded just under 3 inches, with difficult travel conditions expected to continue through Saturday morning as crews work to clear roads and sidewalks.
Although the winter storm is winding down, light snow and a wintry mix are expected to linger through Saturday along the I-95 corridor. An additional inch of snow and a light glaze of ice remain possible in parts of the region.
Across the Northeast, from Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh northward and eastward, overnight temperatures on Saturday are forecast to hover at or below freezing, raising the risk of refreezing slush and snow on untreated surfaces.
Another weather system is expected to move through late Sunday into Monday, bringing mostly rain, though higher elevations could see a wintry mix.
This weekend, a storm system will move from across the country and bring more snow to the inner mountain West on Saturday and eventually rain to the east on Sunday.
The new week is expected to begin with wet conditions in the East on Monday, bringing mostly rain along the East Coast, while parts of the Great Lakes could see snow or a wintry mix.
Much of the country is forecast to experience dry and calm weather heading into New Year’s Eve, with seasonably warm conditions in the West and seasonably cooler temperatures in the East.
After New Year’s Day, a new weather pattern is expected to persist into the start of 2026, with warmer temperatures continuing across much of the West and extending into parts of the South.
At the same time, the Upper Midwest and the Northeast are likely to remain cooler, with an active pattern that could bring several fast-moving weather systems.
