Wike said the organisers had previously applied for permission to hold Friday’s event at the stadium but were denied by the state authorities

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that organisers of the Renewed Hope Family rally will forcibly access the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt if the Rivers State Government again refuses their request to use the facility.

Wike said the organisers had previously applied for permission to hold Friday’s event at the stadium but were denied by the state authorities.

Speaking on Friday at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt, during the inauguration of Renewed Hope Agenda coordinators in the three senatorial districts and 23 local government areas of Rivers State, Wike said any repeat of such refusal would be met with decisive action.

He directed the state coordinator to submit a fresh application for the stadium and fix a date for the inauguration of ward-level coordinators.

Wike warned, “We applied to the state government for the use of the Yakubu Gowon Stadium. They refused us. Let me say this clearly: next time they do this, if you don’t approve it, we will break in by force.”

The minister emphasised that no one can deny Rivers State residents access to state facilities, adding, “If you refuse to grant approval, we will do the needful, and we will take it by force. Heaven will not fall. Even if heaven falls, everywhere will still be at peace.”
