Officials had initially not disclosed how the agent who was wearing a bulletproof vest was injured.

US authorities say the suspect accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump also shot a Secret Service agent during the White House correspondents’ dinner last month.
Officials had initially not disclosed how the agent who was wearing a bulletproof vest was injured.
However, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro told Media on Sunday that investigators have now confirmed the agent was struck by the alleged gunman, identified as Cole Tomas Allen.
“It is definitively his bullet. He hit that Secret Service agent. He had every intention to kill him and anyone who got in his way, on his way to killing the president of the United States,” Pirro said.
“This was a premeditated, violent act, calculated to take down the president and anyone who was in the line of fire.”
She added that fragments from the suspect’s shotgun pellet were found embedded in the fabric of the agent’s protective vest.
The findings could lead to additional charges against the 31-year-old suspect and rule out earlier speculation that the agent may have been struck by friendly fire.
The Justice Department had already filed three charges against Allen last week, including attempted assassination of the president, transporting a firearm across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime.
If convicted of attempted assassination, Allen faces a possible life sentence.
