A student of NKST Secondary School in Sai, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State, Tsavnav Gabriel, was reportedly shot by Nigerian Army personnel on Wednesday evening.
The incident happened as soldiers were returning from Tse Jato, where they had escorted the body of a man allegedly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Residents said the student was hit by a bullet while troops moved through the community.
He was rushed to a clinic in Sai, where he is receiving treatment. Family sources revealed that the victim’s family had earlier been displaced due to ongoing insecurity in the area.
Community members are calling on the Nigerian Army to investigate the shooting and take responsibility if found at fault.
Attempts to reach the Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, for comment were unsuccessful, and the student’s condition has yet to be officially confirmed.
