Leaders from Sokoto State’s Eastern Senatorial District have raised the alarm over threats by notorious bandit leader, Bello Turji, which have forced residents of several communities to flee their homes.

The Secretary of the Sokoto Eastern Zone Development Association, Muazu Shamaki, said a viral video showing residents of Tidibale leaving their community followed threats allegedly issued by Turji.

He said the situation had caused severe hardship, noting that over 20 settlements had been affected by the threats and forced displacement.

Shamaki added that displaced residents were hopeful security agencies would push back the bandits to allow them return home.

Another stakeholder, Malam Bashar Guyawa-Isa, said some residents had taken refuge in neighbouring Niger Republic, appealing for urgent government intervention.

Fear has continued to grip parts of the state as families flee their homes over possible attacks by Turji and his group.
