A 24-year-old man, Yemi Otobugu, was shot dead in a suspected cult-related attack in Iyara community, Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night along Cemetery Road when suspected cult members reportedly invaded the victim’s residence, opened fire on him, and fled the scene.

The attack caused panic among residents, who believe it is linked to renewed cult violence in the area.

Eyewitnesses said Otobugu died from his injuries, and his body has been deposited in a mortuary.

The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, confirmed the killing and said an investigation is underway.

The latest incident adds to a series of suspected cult-related killings in Warri South.

In May, another resident, Sunday Okoro, was shot dead along Urhobo Road in an attack believed to be connected to a rivalry between the Vikings confraternity and the Eiye cult group, also known as the Air Lords.

Residents say the recurring clashes between rival cult groups continue to threaten security in the area despite ongoing efforts by the police to curb the violence.
