The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu can “produce his own votes” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adebayo made the allegation during an interview on Politics Hub, a programme on Vanguard, while speaking on his party’s preparations for the next general election.

He also described Tinubu as the “chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” a remark made in reference to his concerns about the credibility of the electoral process.

According to him, the SDP has continued to engage citizens across the country since the last election, stressing the need for sustained grassroots mobilisation.

“Since the last election, we continue to visit people wherever they are because Tinubu can produce his own votes because he’s the INEC chairman himself,” he said.

Adebayo urged political leaders to reconnect with voters, drawing comparisons with Nigeria’s First Republic politicians.

“We need to go back to our people the same way our leaders in the First Republic did. You needed to see Obafemi Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Nnamdi Azikiwe. When these people went for campaign, dust covered their bodies,” he added.

He further noted that he has been touring different parts of the country as part of efforts to strengthen the SDP’s presence ahead of 2027, saying leaders must meet people at the grassroots to understand their realities.
