The announcement was made on Wednesday in Jos by NYSC Director-General Olakunle Nafiu at the opening ceremony of the NYSC 2026 pre-orientation workshop

A plan to introduce a standardised protocol for the inclusive handling of corps members with disabilities across the orientation course and service year has been announced by the National Youth Service Corps.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Jos by NYSC Director-General Olakunle Nafiu at the opening ceremony of the NYSC 2026 pre-orientation workshop.

Nafiu said the proposed protocol would prioritise dignity, inclusion and equal opportunity beyond regulatory compliance.

“It emphasises our commitment to leaving no one behind and positioning the NYSC as a humane, progressive, and nationally responsive institution,” he said.

The director-general described the pre-orientation workshop as a purposeful and forward-looking engagement rather than a routine administrative event.

“The orientation course constitutes the bedrock of the entire NYSC service year. It is where service begins, character is forged, and citizenship is affirmed,” he said.

Nafiu explained that the workshop created room for strategic planning and reflection ahead of the orientation course, which remains a central pillar of the NYSC programme.

He said there was a need to constantly rethink and redesign the orientation programme to reflect national realities, global best practices and changing youth behaviour.

The NYSC boss also commended camp officials and management staff for their commitment and professionalism.

He specifically praised the smooth execution of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Orientation exercise, noting that it showcased effective teamwork and strong institutional discipline.

Nafiu said the 2026 pre-orientation workshop would include innovative sessions, open-mic discussions to address emerging challenges, improved camp management strategies, stronger collaboration with stakeholders and new practical training modules for corps members.

He urged participants at the workshop to contribute actively in order to generate practical and actionable outcomes capable of strengthening the orientation course across the country.
