A Florida man, Andrew Dykes, 66, appeared before a judge on Thursday facing murder charges in connection with the 1997 deaths of Tanya Jackson and her 2-year-old daughter, Tatiana Marie Dykes. Dykes was arrested Wednesday near Tampa on a warrant from Nassau County, New York.

The bodies of Jackson, 26, and her daughter were found on Long Island, with Jackson’s remains discovered in 1997 and her daughter’s remains found in 2011.

The cases were initially linked to the Gilgo Beach serial murders, but authorities haven’t ruled out other possibilities.

Jackson, a U.S. Army veteran, was identified through genetic genealogy testing in April 2025, nearly 28 years after her death. Her daughter, known as “Baby Doe,” was also identified at the same time.

The remains of a girl were discovered in 2011 near the location of other women’s remains on Long Island’s southern shore, leading to speculation that the deaths might be connected to the Gilgo Beach serial killer.

In 2023, Rex Heuermann, a Long Island architect and father, was arrested and charged with killing seven women in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty and hasn’t been charged with the killings of the mentioned girl or her daughter.
