The son of the Oniwo of Afin in Ifelodun Local Government Area, Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, has been released after being abducted by gunmen, following the payment of a N20 million ransom.

The victim, Olaolu, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, regained his freedom on Monday, while his father and other abductees remain in captivity.

A family source confirmed the development to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The source said Olaolu’s release came after intense negotiations with his captors.

“It is true the prince was released on Monday morning after we paid N20m. They dropped him at a herders’ settlement around Oreke in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

“From there, he was taken to the military base in Oreke, where they contacted us,” the source said.

Olaolu is currently receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital, having suffered both physical and psychological trauma during his abduction.

Meanwhile, Oba Simeon Olanipekun and other kidnapped residents remain with the gunmen, who are reportedly demanding an additional N15 million for their release.
