Russian authorities say dozens of Ukrainian drones targeted Moscow overnight, marking the ninth consecutive day of drone attacks on the Russian capital.

Moscow Mayor said Russian air defenses intercepted many of the drones, but one drone struck a facility at the Moscow oil refinery, causing damage.

He added that no casualties were reported and emergency crews were working at the site.
Videos circulating online appeared to show flames and thick black smoke rising from the Gazprom-owned refinery in Moscow’s Kapotnya district.

The attack also led to temporary flight restrictions at all four of Moscow’s international airports, disrupting air traffic.

Ukraine has steadily expanded its long-range drone campaign against targets deep inside Russia, including Moscow.

Ukrainian officials describe these operations as “long-range sanctions” aimed at increasing pressure on Russia and weakening its ability to continue the war.

According to Russian officials, Tuesday’s attack was one of the largest drone assaults on Moscow in recent months.

Mayor Sobyanin said more Ukrainian drones have been shot down near the capital this year than during the whole of 2025.

The latest strikes came just one day after a major Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv that killed at least five people and damaged a historic cathedral.

Following that attack, Ukrainian Foreign Minister strongly criticized Russian President .

Ukrainian President later shared footage showing the burning refinery and said the strike demonstrated the importance of Ukraine’s long-range weapons.

He argued that continued pressure on Russia is necessary to force an end to the war.

The exchange of attacks highlights the intensifying drone war between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasingly targeting locations far from the front lines.
