Several journalists reporting from Morocco, including sports reporter Adepoju Tobi Samuel, said the players are demanding full payment of their entitlements before participating in the fixture

Nigeria’s Super Eagles players have threatened to refuse travel to Marrakech for their next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) match against Algeria unless the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) pays all outstanding winning bonuses.

Several journalists reporting from Morocco, including sports reporter Adepoju Tobi Samuel, said the players are demanding full payment of their entitlements before participating in the fixture.

BBC journalist Olúwashínà Okeleji also confirmed the development, revealing that both players and officials were still awaiting their bonuses.

“Players and coaching staff of #Nigeria are waiting for #AFCON2025 bonus payments,” Okeleji wrote.

He added that win bonuses from four matches against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique had not yet been paid.

According to Okeleji, the team remains committed to the tournament but has taken a firm stance over the unpaid bonuses.
“The squad remain focused but will not train or travel to Marrakech on Thursday if the issue is not resolved,” he stated.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts by Journalists to obtain a response from the NFF were unsuccessful. Calls and WhatsApp messages sent to the NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, were not returned.

In November, the team similarly threatened to boycott their World Cup qualifier against Gabon over unpaid entitlements owed by Nigerian authorities.

Another Nigerian sports journalist, Pooja, who is with the team in Morocco, also confirmed the situation in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“BREAKING NEWS: Super Eagles players and officials boycotted training today in Morocco because of unresolved payment issues,” he wrote, adding, “This is really sad.”
