Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua is reportedly considering retiring from boxing after a tragic car accident in Nigeria that killed two of his close friends and team members.

Joshua’s uncle, Adedamola Joshua, said the 36-year-old boxer shared his decision privately with family members following the fatal crash, which occurred last week.

“The main thing is that he has retired from boxing. That brings us some relief because every time he steps into the ring, we get carried away emotionally,” Adedamola told Newsmen during a visit to the family home in Sagamu on Monday morning.

When asked if Joshua had clearly informed the family about his decision to quit boxing, his uncle replied, “Yes.”
The accident claimed the lives of two of Joshua’s close associates, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele.

Family sources said Anthony Joshua has also pledged lifelong support to the families of the two men who died in the crash.

Joshua attended an emotional funeral service for his late associates at the London Central Mosque on Sunday.

The coffins were placed side by side as the Janaza, the Islamic funeral prayer, was performed. Hundreds of mourners gathered outside the mosque before the coffins were taken to a nearby crematorium, followed by a wake later in the afternoon.

Reacting to the tragedy, Sagamu native Adeniji Taiwo expressed relief that Joshua survived while mourning the two men who lost their lives.

“We thank God we didn’t lose our son, and for those who lost their children, God will help us to comfort them,” Taiwo said.

“I believe he may fear coming back home, but I will advise him to return because he cannot abandon his father’s place. This is his home.”
Taiwo added,

“We feel sorrow for what happened to our son, who was almost home when the accident occurred, but we thank God and pray nothing like this will happen again. Nothing is impossible anywhere. God will continue to protect him and all of us; no one in Remo wishes him harm he is our pride.”
He continued,

“There are many things we have heard, but this is a Christian family, and we take everything with faith. When something like this happens, emotionally you may react strongly, but in time, you remember this is always your root.”

The accident involving world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
