The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, professionally known as Destiny Boy.

The command said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a detailed investigation.

In a statement obtained by Journalists on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, said investigations had commenced into the death of the 22-year-old artiste.

“The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the statement read.

News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday after distressing videos showing his body being taken to a mortuary circulated widely on social media, triggering grief and speculation about the cause of his death.

In one of the videos, the late singer was seen lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.

An attempt to clarify the circumstances surrounding his death was later made in a separate video by an unidentified associate, who said the artiste had been battling a private health challenge.

“I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. May God rest his soul. Destiny was battling a health issue before he died. We tried our best, but he didn’t make it,” the man said.

Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy began his music career at a young age and became known for his Fuji-influenced style.
He started out at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he worked as a backup dancer for Fuji musician Pasuma.

He rose to prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If, which gained widespread attention on social media.

He also released covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor.
The singer released several songs, including Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan and Lowkey.

Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child in November 2024.
The police said further updates would be provided as investigations continue.
