The Akran of Badagry Kingdom in Lagos State, His Majesty Oba De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, has passed on at the age of 89.

Oba Menu-Toyi I was a paramount ruler of the Badagry Kingdom and a highly respected member of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs. He ascended the throne in 1977 and reigned for 48 years, making him one of the longest-serving traditional rulers in the history of Lagos State.

Beyond his royal duties, the late monarch lived a distinguished life of public service. He was actively involved in politics and journalism before becoming king. As a member of the historic Action Group, he represented Badagry in the Nigerian Parliament in 1951 and later served as a minister during the pre-Independence era, contributing to the political foundation of modern Nigeria.

Oba Menu-Toyi I was also deeply committed to education and community development. He played a key role in the establishment of Badagry Grammar School, one of the town’s leading secondary schools, a legacy that continues to impact generations.

His death marks the end of an era in Badagry, as the kingdom mourns a monarch whose reign was defined by service, leadership, and dedication to his people.
