Authorities said the discharge caused foul odours and environmental damage in the area.

The Lagos State Government has sealed the Access Bank branch on Land Bridge Avenue, Oniru, Victoria Island, over allegations of dumping untreated human waste into public drainage channels.
Authorities said the discharge caused foul odours and environmental damage in the area.
The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office carried out the enforcement operation on Wednesday night as part of a joint exercise.
Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the action on Thursday.
He said the closure followed credible information from a whistleblower about the violation.
“Following a tip from a whistleblower, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office, during joint enforcement activities last night, sealed the Access Bank branch at Land Bridge Avenue, Oniru, Victoria Island for indiscriminately discharging raw faecal matter into drainages, causing foul smell and environmental degradation in defiance of state environmental laws,” Wahab stated.
He added that the property would face sanctions according to the state’s environmental regulations.
Officials reportedly inspected the branch before the closure and confirmed that untreated sewage was being discharged directly into public drainage systems.
In recent months, Lagos environmental authorities have intensified enforcement against individuals, businesses, and institutions violating sanitation and wastewater disposal laws.
The government has repeatedly warned that illegal sewage discharge contributes to pollution, health risks, and the deterioration of public infrastructure.
