Iran has warned that no nation has the authority to set deadlines for the Islamic Republic, signalling a firm stance against pressure from the United States.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, made the statement on Wednesday in an interview with Al Jazeera, where he also directed a stern message to U.S. President Donald Trump.
Araghchi said the United States had repeatedly tested Iran, but Tehran would not accept threats or artificial timelines.
He emphasised that protecting the rights and interests of the Iranian people remains the country’s top priority.
“You cannot speak to the people of Iran with the language of threats and deadlines. No one can set deadlines for us, artificial deadlines do nothing but make matters more difficult. And you have seen that these deadlines have been extended twice so far. The President of the United States must change his approach.
“Our people are great people with a very rich culture, and one must speak to the people of Iran with respect, otherwise they will receive exactly the response they are receiving now,” Araghchi said.
