The attackers reportedly set off another device to destroy a bridge connecting the Luma-Babana-Agwara communities, a key route used by residents travelling to the Babana border market, which holds every Monday.

Eight people lost their lives on Monday when terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.

The attackers reportedly set off another device to destroy a bridge connecting the Luma-Babana-Agwara communities, a key route used by residents travelling to the Babana border market, which holds every Monday.

A source in the area told Vanguard that the bridge was bombed around 5 a.m.

“In the early hours today, bandits stormed Borgu Local Government Area and bombed the Luma-Babana bridge. This has prevented villagers from accessing other parts of the communities, especially the Babana Monday Market,” the source said.

The source added that the attackers also detonated bombs between Rafingiwa and Babana, and another at Woro and Kaiama, forcing residents to flee their homes.

Confirming the attack, Borgu Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Nasir Abdullahi, said, “There was an attack by bandits, and we are trying to verify the full extent. A bridge was damaged, and we have sent people to the area to assess the situation.”
