ICPC spokesperson John Odey said in a message shared with journalists on WhatsApp, “Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with ongoing investigations

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has confirmed that former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, was rearrested just hours after his release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday.

ICPC spokesperson John Odey said in a message shared with journalists on WhatsApp, “Malam Nasiru El-Rufai is in the custody of the Commission in connection with ongoing investigations.”

El-Rufai was initially detained by the EFCC on Monday over alleged corruption and granted administrative bail around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses said armed operatives immediately took him into custody at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja.

Conflicting reports initially suggested either the State Security Service or ICPC was responsible for the rearrest, but the anti-graft agency later confirmed its involvement.
