Five people were injured on Thursday when an improvised explosive device detonated along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, after a motorcycle conveying the victims ran over the device.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analysis platform, the explosion occurred at about 11:30am.

It was reported that a motorcycle carrying five passengers triggered the device, which was believed to have been planted by armed bandits targeting security patrols in the area.

The blast wrecked the motorcycle and left all five occupants with serious injuries.

Following the incident, security operatives sealed off the road to vehicular movement and warned residents to stay away from the area.

Security agencies also carried out checks to rule out the presence of additional explosive devices.

The injured victims were later rushed to the General Hospital in Gummi for medical treatment.

Traffic along the Takalafiya–Gadar Zaima corridor remains restricted as security operatives continue surveillance to ensure the route is safe.

In December 2025, several travellers were seriously injured after an IED reportedly planted by bandits exploded along the Gurusu–Gwashi road in the same local government area.

Days later, at least nine persons were reportedly killed when two suspected IEDs detonated along the Magami–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The explosives were allegedly planted by suspected bandits between the Maikogo and Mai’ayaya communities.
