A University of Ibadan law graduate and activist, Kayode Bello, has approached the Federal High Court in Ibadan, seeking an order compelling his readmission into the Nigerian Law School after years of alleged unlawful exclusion.

The suit, marked FHC/IB/CS/93/2025 and presided over by Justice Evelyn Maha, is scheduled for hearing on January 27, 2026.

Bello told the court that the Nigerian Law School’s Code of Conduct does not permanently bar his readmission, noting that his 2017 expulsion had elapsed.

He claimed fresh evidence has emerged, including an alleged pardon letter he said was withheld by a former Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Ibadan, Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose.

The applicant said he was expelled in 2017 after protesting poor learning facilities at the Abuja campus of the Law School and alleged that the authorities ignored a court order allowing him to sit for Bar final examinations.

In the suit, Bello is asking the court to compel the Minister of Education, the Council of Legal Education, the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, and officials of the University of Ibadan to respond to his 2022 request for intervention and order his immediate readmission.

He is also seeking N100 million in damages for alleged denial of justice, hardship, and prolonged psychological stress arising from delays in completing his legal education.
