Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has confirmed his intention to run for the presidency in the 2027 general election.
Obi made the announcement on Sunday night during an X Spaces conversation, where he addressed questions about his political future and leadership ambitions.
He dismissed speculation about accepting a vice-presidential slot, insisting he is not interested in serving as a running mate to any candidate.
According to Obi, his political journey and experience have been aimed at Nigeria’s highest office, and he will not abandon his presidential ambition for a vice-presidential position.
His declaration has reignited discussions among Labour Party supporters and youth-led political movements that backed his 2023 presidential bid, as the 2027 election promises to be highly competitive.
Obi said, “I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice President. I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President. Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027. I need your support. I need your prayers.”
