The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has praised one of its volunteers, Mr. Nura Abdullahi, for returning more than N20 million accidentally left by a passenger in a commercial tricycle.
The corps described Abdullahi’s action as “a rare display of honesty, integrity and professionalism.”
ACG Amos Abiodun-Taiwo, NSCDC Commander of Zone 12, made the commendation on Friday while presenting a letter of recognition to Abdullahi.
The incident occurred when a passenger, Alhaji Mustafa from Katsina State, left his bag containing the money behind. Abdullahi traced the owner using the last dialed number on Mustafa’s phone, which he had lent the passenger earlier, and returned the sum.
Abiodun-Taiwo noted that such honesty is highly unusual, particularly during current economic challenges. He highlighted that Abdullahi, a volunteer with reportedly less than N20,000 in his own account, acted with exceptional integrity.
The command verified the incident and briefed the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, who instructed that Abdullahi be celebrated as a model of honesty within the corps.
“This young man is a good ambassador for his family, the NSCDC, and Nigeria. Positive deeds like this deserve wide recognition,” Abiodun-Taiwo said, urging the public to emulate Abdullahi’s example.
He added, “It pays to be honest. If he had taken the money, he wouldn’t enjoy peace today. Parents should train their children well, and young people should uphold such values.”
The commander also assured that Abdullahi would be “handsomely rewarded” for his exemplary conduct.
