The budget proposal specifies that N2.5 billion is earmarked for the procurement of State House operational vehicles, while N758 million is allocated for the replacement of SUVs

A review of Nigeria’s 2026 budget by Journalists has revealed that the Bola Tinubu-led Presidency intends to spend N3.3 billion on the purchase and replacement of vehicles.
The budget proposal specifies that N2.5 billion is earmarked for the procurement of State House operational vehicles, while N758 million is allocated for the replacement of SUVs.
Additionally, N115 million has been set aside for tyres for bullet-proof vehicles, plain cars, CCU vehicles, platform trucks, SUVs, ambulances, and other utility and operational vehicles.
Attempts to compare these allocations with the Presidency’s 2025 tyre spending were inconclusive, as comprehensive data from last year has not been published. However, the 2025 budget document indicated that N3.6 billion was budgeted for operational vehicles at the State House, with another N1 billion earmarked for SUV replacements.
This continued high spending on SUVs and State House operations comes amid rising calls for prudence in government resource management.
In 2024, a review of the Govspend public payments portal highlighted significant tyre expenditures by the Presidency.
Over three days May 21, 2024, June 22, 2023, and June 24, 2023—the State House reportedly spent a total of N366 million on tyres.
On June 22, 2023, N42.8 million was spent on State House tyres in a single day, followed by N86.2 million on June 24. On May 21, 2024, the Presidency reportedly spent N38 million on five armoured/bullet-proof tyres and an additional N200.5 million on tyres for other bullet-proof vehicles.
Earlier reports from Newsmen showed that between August 18 and September 9, 2024, the Nigerian Presidency spent N5.1 billion on vehicle purchases in just 21 days. On August 18, 2024, N3.4 billion was reportedly spent on sixteen 2023/2024 Toyota Prado vehicles, averaging N212 million per vehicle.
On September 9, 2024, another N1.7 billion was spent on ten Toyota Camry V4 2023 models for the State House.
These figures underscore the substantial budgetary allocations for State House vehicles and operational needs, even as public scrutiny intensifies over government spending priorities.
