The United States has supplied critical military equipment to Nigeria in a move aimed at strengthening security cooperation between the two countries.
The delivery, confirmed by United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), took place in Abuja. In a post on X, AFRICOM said the handover supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and reinforces the shared security partnership.
“U.S. forces delivered critical military supplies to our Nigerian partners in Abuja. This delivery supports Nigeria’s ongoing operations and emphasizes our shared security partnership,” AFRICOM said, tagging the US Mission in Nigeria. The post did not specify the type or quantity of equipment provided.
The delivery comes amid ongoing security collaboration. On Christmas night, US forces carried out airstrikes in Sokoto State targeting Islamic State–linked militants allegedly collaborating with the Lakurawa jihadist group and local bandit networks.
The airstrikes followed diplomatic tensions after US President Donald Trump described the situation in Nigeria as “genocide,” a claim strongly rejected by the Nigerian government.
