US President Donald Trump said the historic relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom “is not like it used to be” in an interview with the British newspaper The Sun.

“This was the most solid relationship of all. Now we have very strong ties with other European countries,” he said, highlighting France and Germany, following UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s refusal to let the US use British military bases in Cyprus for its war against Iran.

Trump added that Starmer “has not been helpful” and said, “I never thought I’d see that. I never thought I’d see that from the UK. We love the UK.”

In a phone interview from the White House on Monday evening, he said: “It’s a different world, actually. It’s just a much different kind of relationship than we’ve had with your country before.”
