Two people have been killed and the local security chief, Olu-Òde, injured after suspected terrorists attacked Oro-Ago, the hometown of Kwara State Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi, in Ifelodun Local Government Area on Wednesday evening.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen, armed and in large numbers, fired sporadically, attempted to overrun a nearby police station, and moved house to house, breaking doors and terrorising residents.

The security chief was reportedly shot in the arm while defending the community. Residents described the attack as a full-scale invasion and appealed for urgent government intervention.

Neighbouring communities, including Ahun, Oke-Oyan, Ago-Olomo, Ajegunle, Omugo and Oke-Daba, have reportedly been deserted as fear of further attacks spreads.

The assault follows a recent security alert warning of potential coordinated attacks on Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin local government areas in Kwara South Senatorial District.

Authorities in Kwara State are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
