The military said its forces seized the town after clashes with the RSF, claiming the paramilitary group suffered heavy losses in fighters and military equipment

Sudan’s army says it has recaptured the town of Khor Hassan in the southeastern Blue Nile state from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking another development in the civil war that has lasted more than three years.
In a statement released on Friday, the military said its forces seized the town after clashes with the RSF, claiming the paramilitary group suffered heavy losses in fighters and military equipment.
Blue Nile state has become a major battleground in the conflict because of its strategic location.
The region serves as a gateway to central Sudan, making it important for both sides seeking control of the country’s interior.
The state also borders Ethiopia, which Sudan’s government has accused along with the United Arab Emirates of supporting the RSF.
Both Ethiopia and the UAE have denied the accusations.
The RSF had controlled Khor Hassan since March with support from its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).
According to Sudan Tribune, the army’s capture of Khor Hassan is part of a broader effort to retake Kurmuk, a town near the Ethiopian border that is considered vital for cross-border trade and access to important infrastructure, including the Al-Roseires Dam.
