The Ondo State Police Command on Thursday announced the arrest of six men who allegedly posed as pastors to defraud residents of the Idanre community in Idanre Local Government Area.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Kazeem, said the suspects reportedly staged fake miracles to deceive unsuspecting victims.
The suspects were identified as Fadahunsi, Kolade, Tijani, Iyanuoluwa, Arijesulola, and Ademola.
Kazeem explained that on February 16, 2026, operatives of the Command’s Tactical Teams, working with Community Safety Officers, carried out a coordinated, intelligence-led operation following credible reports about the activities of a suspected fraud syndicate operating in Idanre and nearby areas.
He said the operation resulted in the arrest of six suspects believed to have organised and executed fraudulent schemes targeting members of the public.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly presented themselves as pastors and religious leaders, staging fake miracles and spiritual interventions to win the confidence and trust of their victims.
According to the police, the suspects exploited the faith and emotions of individuals by promising divine solutions to financial problems, health challenges, and other personal issues, before defrauding them through false pretences and related scams.
The police spokesperson added that the suspects operated in a coordinated manner, assigning different roles to create a convincing appearance of legitimacy.
He noted that investigations are ongoing to determine the number of victims, assess the financial scale of the fraud, and identify possible accomplices still at large.
Kazeem said all suspects remain in police custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to individuals who exploit religion, spirituality, or false miracle claims for criminal activities.
