El-Rufai said he and others listened in on Ribadu’s calls after someone reportedly tapped the NSA’s phone

The Presidency has ordered a full investigation into former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over claims that he had access to National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu’s, phone conversations.
El-Rufai said he and others listened in on Ribadu’s calls after someone reportedly tapped the NSA’s phone.
He acknowledged that intercepting calls is technically illegal but insisted it is common practice, adding, “The government does it all the time. They listen to our calls without a court order. But someone tapped his phone and told us that he gave the order.”
Speaking on Friday after El-Rufai’s interview on Arise TV, Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga expressed concern over the national security implications of the remarks.
“El-Rufai has openly admitted to wire-tapping Nigeria’s NSA. Does this mean he and his associates have access to wire-tapping equipment?” Onanuga asked.
He stressed that the issue must not be ignored, insisting that a thorough investigation be conducted and appropriate sanctions imposed. “El-Rufai is not above the law,” the spokesperson added.
