Kebbi State Police have confirmed that 33 people lost their lives in an armed attack on Bui District, Arewa Local Government Area, following a violent cattle-rustling incident.

Police spokesperson Bashir Usman said the command, working with the military and other security agencies, has deployed additional personnel and operational assets to the area.

Sustained patrols are ongoing to restore order and ensure the safety of residents.

The police expressed deep sorrow over the fatalities and extended condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Arewa community.

Preliminary investigations indicate that suspected Lakurawa militants crossed from Gudu Local Government Area in neighbouring Sokoto State to Bui District to rustle cattle.

Residents from Mamunu, Awasaka, Tungan Tsoho, Makangara, Kanzo, Gorun Naidal, and Dan Mai Ago mobilised to resist the intruders, resulting in a deadly confrontation.

Authorities warned that confronting heavily armed groups is extremely dangerous and urged residents to report suspicious activities through established security channels instead of taking matters into their own hands.

Local sources said the attackers stormed multiple villages, firing indiscriminately and forcing many residents to flee.

Security operatives have now been deployed to secure the communities, assist survivors, and prevent the attackers from escaping. Tracking operations are ongoing.
