The atmosphere across the city was festive as supporters gathered to welcome Igboho, marking his first public appearance in Ibadan since the development.

Ibadan, Oyo State — Supporters of Yoruba rights activist Chief Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, on Monday took to parts of Ibadan in celebration following reports that his wanted status by the Federal Government has been lifted.
The atmosphere across the city was festive as supporters gathered to welcome Igboho, marking his first public appearance in Ibadan since the development.
Songs, cheers, and chants accompanied the procession, reflecting widespread relief and excitement among his followers.
Speaking during the visit, Igboho disclosed that his first stop upon returning to Ibadan was the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, where he went to personally express gratitude to the revered monarch for his unwavering support, particularly during his period of detention in the Benin Republic.
According to Igboho, the Olubadan had contacted him the previous Friday, informing him that he was free to return home, having been granted clearance at the highest level of government.
He noted that at the time, he did not fully comprehend that his ordeals were part of a broader process that would eventually lead to his freedom.
Igboho also acknowledged the critical role played by other traditional rulers across Yorubaland, stating that their collective interventions were instrumental throughout his incarceration.
He recalled that his initial detention conditions were extremely difficult, but improved significantly following sustained advocacy by Yoruba monarchs, which led to his transfer to a more humane facility.
Describing the Olubadan as a man of integrity and honour, Igboho said, “Kabiyesi is a man whose words align with his actions.” He further revealed that the monarch provided financial and moral support during his detention, alongside numerous other acts of compassion.
Responding, the Olubadan fondly referred to Igboho as “my son,” describing the entire experience as a life lesson and part of a necessary learning journey. The monarch offered prayers and fatherly counsel in what observers described as an emotional and intimate father-to-son exchange.
The visit underscored the strong bond between Sunday Igboho and traditional institutions in Yorubaland. Supporters present also praised Yoruba monarchs for their unity, resilience, and decisive intervention during the period of Igboho’s detention, describing their actions as pivotal in securing his eventual release.
More developments are expected as events surrounding Igboho’s return continue to unfold.
