The All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected claims linking it to the recent shooting in Edo State, blaming the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and describing the opposition party as its own “nemesis.”
In a statement on Thursday, APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, called the allegations “utterly delusional” and “senseless,” insisting that the investigation should focus on the ADC, its leaders, and members as the primary suspects.
Morka said the ADC is currently “overrun by internal leadership and cult-like supremacy struggles,” pointing to reported violent clashes among its factional leaders as a more likely cause of the incident. He added that the APC has “absolutely no role or responsibility” in the matter.
The ruling party criticised ADC leaders as “insufferable jesters” who use “dark humour” to manipulate public perception, describing their references to “acts of terrorism” as reckless and disrespectful to the sacrifices of security personnel.
Morka also questioned how a party that cannot manage a single incident could be trusted with Nigeria’s broader security challenges.
While dismissing the ADC as a “fringe and inconsequential” group, the APC highlighted its focus on recent electoral victories in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as well as Rivers and Kano states, attributing the wins to public confidence in President Bola Tinubu.
The APC called on law enforcement to conduct an “expeditious investigation” to bring the true culprits to justice, while urging the ADC to reflect on its “dismal and disgraceful performance” in recent by-elections.
