The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the Federal Government’s plan to spend over ₦712 billion on the renovation of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, describing it as a reckless use of public funds.

In a statement on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the project shows the Bola Tinubu-led administration is disconnected from the harsh realities Nigerians are facing.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) strongly rejects the shocking ₦712 billion airport renovation plan announced by the Tinubu government, calling it yet another clear example of careless spending and lack of concern for the people,” Abdullahi said.

The party argued that it is illogical to commit such a huge sum to an already upgraded airport while schools remain underfunded, healthcare unaffordable, and millions of Nigerians continue to suffer from poor government policies.

It added that the aviation sector does not need another “gold-plated terminal” but improved maintenance and the development of regional airports to boost connectivity across the country.
