MALABO – The Government of Equatorial Guinea has expressed its solidarity with Spain, allocating one million euros to mitigate the ravages caused by the Isolated High Level Depression (DANA).

This decision was taken during an urgent meeting that took place at the People’s Palace in Malabo, between the Vice President of the Republic, Nguema Obiang Mangue, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Ministers of the Government, as well as several ministers of the executive.

During the session, the mechanisms for sending this aid equivalent to more than 600 million CFA francs to the Spanish government, in response to the devastating effects of the DANA in the Autonomous Community of Valencia, were analysed.

To date, the catastrophe has resulted in more than 200 deaths and numerous material damages.

The meeting also recalled the significant contribution that Spain made to Equatorial Guinea on 7 March 2021 in Bata, thus highlighting the principle of “love is repaid with love” and the historical ties that unite the two countries.

As a leader in the African Union Year theme of displaced persons and returnees on the African continent, the government of President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has provided support to a number of nations that have experienced major disasters, including Turkey, Haiti, China, the United States, Japan and Ethiopia.

In this regard, the heads of the portfolios of the Primature, Trade, Defence, Human Rights, Security and Foreign Affairs, among others, have expressed their unanimous position of supporting Spain through this economic assistance, in order to support emergency service workers and military personnel participating in search and rescue operations in Valencia and its surroundings.
