BORNO, Nigeria – A Nigerian soldier, Sergeant Saad Adamu with service number 05NA/56/385 has been arrested over alleged possession of illegal ammunition in Borno State.
Adamu was reportedly found with 485 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and 2 magazines concealed in cartons of dry fish.
He was arrested at Njimtilo, along Damaturu/Maiduguri Road, investigative news outlet, SaharaReporters reported, citing a military signal.
The signal read, “TEXT: OP HADIN KAI – OP DESERT SANITY III/LAKE SANITY II AND MOUNTAIN SANITY II SPECIAL SITREP. SITREP NO 1074 AS AT 052230A AUG 24. REF. 7 DIV PROV GP SPECIAL SITREP. FOL THE ARREST OF 05NA/56/385 SGT SAAD ADAMU FOR AMMO RACKETEERING AT NJIMTILO CP ALONG RD MAIDUGURI – DAMATURU, PRELIM INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE SLDR WAS A PERS OF 3 DOS WHO LEFT HIS UNIT IN JOS TO MAIDUGURI WITHOUT PASS FOR HIS NEFARIOUS ACT. THE SLDR CONFESSED THAT HE COLLECTED THE AMMO FROM ONE 07NA/60/0940 SGT DALHATU MURTALA, THE ARMOURER OF 19 BDE GAR. HE WAS ARRESTED AT BAGA RD GEN AREA.
