The victims, including a woman and two men, were rescued by vigilant security personnel yesterday. Mr. Oluwayomi, a close family friend, confirmed to Koikimedia that his friend’s wife, one of the abducted individuals, was safely rescued around Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
During the rescue mission, the vigilante team encountered a group of kidnappers. A shootout ensued, resulting in the death of one of the kidnappers while the rest fled. The exact number of other people rescued during the operation remains undisclosed.
Earlier reports detailed the harrowing experience of the victims. According to Mr. Oluwayomi, the abduction occurred around 1:00 PM, following a night of terror when the kidnappers forcibly entered the house, breaking windows and firing shots.
Mr. Emmanuel, the victim’s brother-in-law, recounted that he, his brother’s wife, and their two-year-old child were at home at the time. The child managed to escape, but both Mr. Emmanuel and his sister-in-law were taken.
The kidnappers, described as Fulani speakers using some Hausa, were armed with six AK-47 rifles and three machetes. They also kidnapped a 15-year-old boy and two men from neighboring homes, raiding the properties for food, power banks, and phones.
Mr. Emmanuel and the teenager escaped by fleeing into the bush, leaving the other victims behind.
As of now, the rescued individuals are safe and have been reunited with their families. The authorities continue to investigate the incident and pursue the remaining kidnappers.
