Portugal international Bernardo Silva has completed a free transfer to Real Madrid after his contract with Manchester City expired, ending a highly successful nine-year stay at the English club.
The 31-year-old midfielder’s move to the Spanish giants was confirmed on Wednesday.
He has signed a two-year deal that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2028.
Silva leaves Manchester City after making 459 appearances in all competitions since joining from AS Monaco in 2017.
During his time at the club, he scored 76 goals and became a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s dominant squad.
His trophy collection at the Etihad includes 15 major titles, highlighted by four consecutive Premier League wins between 2021 and 2024, a historic treble in 2023 that included the UEFA Champions League, and a domestic treble in the 2018/19 season.
Real Madrid have been active in the transfer market as they rebuild their squad after two seasons without a major trophy.
The club recently appointed José Mourinho as head coach following changes in leadership under president Florentino Pérez.
Silva is one of several high-profile arrivals at the club, joining other recent signings as Madrid strengthen their team for the new campaign.
