Iran’s national football team arrived in Mexico on Sunday ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as tensions continue over the United States’ decision to deny visas to some Iranian support staff.

The dispute comes just days before the tournament begins.

While Iranian players received US visas, several administrative and management officials were reportedly denied entry, prompting Iran to accuse Washington of political interference in sport.

Iran’s squad will be based in Tijuana, Mexico, throughout the tournament, despite playing all their Group G matches in the United States.

US officials said visas were issued for players and essential staff but stressed that security concerns would be strictly enforced.

Iran will face New Zealand on June 15, Belgium on June 21, and Egypt on June 26 in the group stage.
